Program: "Exploring the Unknown: Cryptic Mushroom Diversity In Your Backyard"
California has an extremely diverse 'mycoflora', with over 4,000 species of macro fungi documented. Modern taxonomical tools have shown that this is just the tip of the iceberg. This talk will highlight some of the recent discoveries, and how you can help move mycology forward.
Fair activities (all day):
Mushroom ID - bring in mushrooms and have experts identify them. The experts can explain what key features help determine what kind of mushrooms you have.
Mushroom Display - view recently foraged wild mushrooms that have been identified. Learn about the different types of mushrooms and how they function in nature.
Mushroom Art - view recently created sculptures, diagrams, and art contributed by some of our artistically minded members.
Children's Booth - kids can have fun coloring mushroom pictures, learning mushroom origami, and experimenting with homemade mushroom ink and a stamp pad.
Vendors - will be selling mushroom growing kits, oils, books, clothing, bags, magnets, jewelry and more.
Membership Booth - here you can join LAMS and start receiving our newsletter, announcements of forays, and access to our beginner and intermediate mushroom class.
