February 10, 2018 (Saturday)--pre-Fair events

Please be advised that, due to dry conditions, there will be NO pre-Fair foray to gather specimens for display.

Statement from the Field Trip Chairman:

" It is with great regret that I have decided to cancel the customary Saturday foray to gather specimens for display at the Fair. Recent scouting trips have shown that conditions at potential foray locations are very poor, and given the current weather forecast, unlikely to improve quickly. I know that members and the public look forward to participating in this foray, but bringing people to a location where they are unlikely to find mushrooms is not productive.

I urge LAMS members and others who wish to contribute specimens to visit well-watered habitats in their area, such as lawns, gardens, parks and cemeteries to collect specimens for display. In the current dry period these locations are likely to be more rewarding than the traditional natural habitats where we have foraged in the past. Pay particular attention to locations likely to retain moisture, such as shaded areas with thick mulch or leaf litter.  As always, make a note of any nearby trees or shrubs that could be the mycorrhizal hosts for your specimens.  Please ask before removing any mushrooms from private property.

Thank you and Good Luck! "
